The WIST Steiermark, a non-profit organisation, has had two goals since its founding in 1986: providing low-cost accommodation for students and modern architecture for a contemporary style of living, especially in order to help socially weak students.

Aesthetics, modern and appealing interior design should not be forgotten, despite cheap living facilities.

With its 1.402 student places and nine student residences in Graz, Kapfenberg and Leoben, the WIST is currently the largest provider of student accommodation in Styria.

Since the very beginning, the WIST Steiermark has also placed a great emphasis on culture, as art and culture have always been closely linked to the university and student life. Our aim is to support smaller artistic and cultural activities by people who do these things out of enjoyment. We do this by providing our event hall at Moserhofgasse 34 as a venue for artists at a low cost. In addition, we also try to provide a platform for unconventional jazz with our traditional jazz series WIST-Jazz, for which the well-known vibraphonist Berndt Luef is responsible.

The Arts Association UniT’s “Theater am Lend” has developed into a cultural centre in the student accommodation Wiener Straße 58a.
